Afzal Ansary FRPS

Afzal Ansary’s life long passion for photography started when he was  just 11 years old. By the age of 14 years he was the proud owner of a  Leica and a Rollieflex.

Afzal went on to study photography at the Regent Street Polytechnic, London (now University of Westminster). He is a member of Deutsche Gessellschaft fur Photographie (DGPh), a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society, a Fellow of the British Institute of Professional Photography, an Honorary Fellow of the Master Photographers Association, and a Fellow of the Biological Photographic Association.

He now works as a writer, researcher and freelance documentary photographer specialising in documentary, travel, editorial, and nature photography. Afzal is particularly interested in photographing people in their daily working environment with available light. He currently has an exhibition on at the TouchStones Art Gallery in Rochdale showing 60 prints on “People of Pakistan”. His images have been published world wide in books, journals and newspapers, and other media, including The Independent, BBC, Channel 4 and the Discovery Channel.

Afzal believes “photography is a visual language of excellence.”  It allows for a depth of perception and emotions; images are universally appreciated and understood, whilst still being able to capture ‘factual details.’ Afzal’s is a holistic approach to photography, and he strives to capture the subtle interrelation of a land and her people.
